Glika Nera (meaning ‘Sweet Waters’) situated on the south coast of Chania in the region of Sfakia is one of the most beautiful remote and isolated beaches in Crete. The beach was named after the fresh water flowing from the White Mountains. Well-hidden and away from the crowds Glika Nera offers the chance (depending on the time of visit) of complete and utter isolation. Small whitewashed pebbles and crystal clear refreshing waters compose the scenery with the imposing White Mountains at the backdrop. The beach is accessible only by boat with starting point either the port of Chora Sfakion or Loutro or by walking part of the European E4 footpath (E4 Sweet Water Beach). Walking to Glika Nera should be attempted only by those who are keen and experienced on hiking.
