Agios Mathaios, An idyllic scenery

Kalathas Beach
The sandy beach of Kalathas, which is located just 6km away from the Villa Koukounari, is popular among locals and visitors, families and groups of friends, as it is shallow and perfect for families with children or people who are looking for a tranquil organized beach. The unique feature of Kalathas’ landscape is a small island which rises a few meters away from the beach.
Seitan Limania Beach
Mesmerizing turquoise waters and a rugged landscape, just 17km from Villa Koukounari. The impressive rocky walls of the canal and the turquoise waters of the beach compose a perfect landscape. Seitan is the hidden treasure of Akrotiri area, as it used to be a “secret” location among the locals till a few years back when the road was built.
Stavros Beach
Stavros beach, which initially became famous due to the movie “Zorbas the Greek”, is located 12km away from the luxury villa, in Akrotiri area. Today the beach is famous due to its sandy beach, shallow and almost always calm waters which makes one of the most suitable family beaches in Chania.
Marathi Beaches
Marathi consists of two separated beaches, which are sandy, shallow, with crystal clear waters. Marathi is also a famous destination for its tavernas right off the beach.
Venizelos Graves
One of the most beautiful spots of the area, located less than 2km from Villa Koukounari and about 5km from the city center of Chania. The spot offers great views to the city, especially during the sunset hour and to the imposing White Mountains on the left. Apart from the beautiful views, the location is of high historical importance as Eleftherios Venizelos, one of the most prominent prime ministers of Greece, rests there next to his son Sophocles. The area is also famous for the beautiful church of ‘Profitis Ilias’ (Prophet Elijah) which was built during 16th century by the Venetians and played a significant role during the revolution of Cretans against the Ottoman rule.
