LISSOS

The beach of Lissos is located in Ai-Kyrkos (Agios Kirykos), approximately 71km south of Chania and 3km west of Sougia. It is built over the remains of the ancient Lissos in a verdant valley.

The beach is isolated with few people visiting it every summer. It has thick pebbles and it is affected by the south wind. Next to the beach there are many trees for shade. The beach of Lissos can only be approached through sea or hiking. Near the beach there is the small church of Agios Kirykos which is celebrated on the 15th of July every year. If you find yourselves in the area the day before, it is worthwhile to attend the celebrations. Boats with pilgrims arrive at the beach, the crowd walks toward the church where they attend the mystery and afterwards the celebration begins.

A walk in the valley of Lissos will reveal to you the mosaic floors of Asklipiio, ancient remains like columns, the roman cemetery with the covered graves, but also remains of the ancient theatre.

SOUGIA

Sougia is a sea side village, 70km south of Chania. Sougia is at the exit of the gorge of Agia Irini and stands out for its large, beautiful beach with just few people and calm atmosphere.

Sougia is wide known because of the youngsters that chose this beach for camping under the shade of the trees. The nearby beaches are more interesting, especially for those who seek privacy and isolation.

DOMATA

Domata, an beautiful beach 7km east of Sougia and 58 south of Chania, situated in the area of Tseses. This is where the natural and rough gorge of Klados ends. The natural springs have given a unique natural beauty to the beach.

The beach is fascinating, with small clean pebbles and clear blue water. The area is only approachable by boat or by crossing the gorge of Klados. There are no facilities, only pines, which offer shade, and the possibility of camping.

MARMARA

Marmara or Dialiskari, a small isolated beach with pebbles 85km south of Chania and 5km west of Loutro. The beach is found at the exit of the astonishing gorge of Aradaina in the area of Sfakia. It is the main destination for those who cross the gorge, but also for those who visit it by boat from Loutro. There is a restaurant at the beach which offers the basic.

AGIOS PAVLOS

Agios Pavlos, a gorgeous beach located in Piso Aigialoi, 3km east of Agia Roumeli and 6km west of Loutro, at the exit of the rough gorge Elygia. The beach is totally isolated, due to the fact that the only way to get there is by boat or after long hiking. The closest ports are Agia Roumeli and Loutro.

The thick silver and brown sand combined with the pine forest that surrounds the beach make it unique. The only facility found in the area is a small restaurant.

The beach is named after the traditional byzantine church of Agios Pavlos, built on the beach with stones of the area.

LOUTRO

Loutro, a small fishing village 71km south of Chania, at the end of cape Mouri.

There is the possibility to stay in the village, as there are many hotels, and use it as your base to dash out to the beaches around the area. A beach worthwhile visiting is Glyka Nera which is east of Loutro. Additionally you can hire a canoe and sail towards the nearby beaches of Timios Stavros and Perivolaki, 1km east of Loutro just before the beach Glyka Nera. Even the beach of Loutro or Keramos are two very good choices, especially when the south wind blows in the area. The beaches have thick pebbles, they are well organized and the sea is always calm with a deep blue and green colour. If you like to swim with a mask, it is very possible to see the frequent visitors of the beach, the sea turtles Careta-Careta.

Loutro is a traditional fishing village in the southwest of Crete, unaffected by the massive tourism, ideal for those who want something different.
