The small town of Paleochora lies on the south-west coast of Crete and approximately 80km from the city of Chania. It is one of the most popular destinations among all visitors and one of the biggest and most cosmopolitan places on the south coast of Crete. Among its numerous beautiful spots is the lovely long strip of Pahia Ammos (meaning Thick Sand) which is situated on one side of the town and depending on which side you visit the ambiance is different. The beach is mostly sandy and there are plenty of dining options all along the stretch, plenty of sunbeds and umbrellas and some tamarisk trees for natural shade. The water is crystal clear and suitable for families with a modest depth for quite a way out. At certain times of year it can get a bit windy.
