Lefka Ori (Greek: Λευκά Όρη, meaning "White Mountains") is a mountain range located in the western part of Crete above the city of Chania. What many summer visitors do not realize is that Crete during the winter can get covered with this white substance, even though most live too far away to even feel it. When the few cold days with rain falls down in Chania, it is often abused by the young generation, whilst elders thrive in the idea that snow, brings a steady flow of water down from the mountains to the olive groves and fruit orchards throughout Spring and Summer. The highest summit is Pachnes with 2,453 m (8,048 ft) and there are more than 30 other summits above 2,000 m (6,562 ft) high. These provide stunning views during early summer months, when our beautiful beaches are blessed with an alpine backdrop. Enjoy the view!
