Kalathas Βeach is located on the west side of the Akrotiri Peninsula approximately 10km east of the city of Chania. It is a beautiful sandy beach with fine golden sand and shallow crystal clear waters which makes it ideal for children. The beach is organised with sun beds, parasols and dining facilities and served by limited public transport, so a car is recommended. The beach is quite long and wide which means that you will not feel overcrowded. However, during the months of July and August it could get busy. There are two secluded coves – one on the west and one on the east side of the main Kalathas Beach – which remain quiet almost throughout the year. Apart from the golden fine sand, the other distinctive characteristic of the Kalathas Beach is the little island opposite the beach which you can easily reach by swimming. Also, next to the beach there are several palm and tamarisk trees, with the second ones offering generously valuable shade during the hot summer months.
